Sunday Series

As you are hopefully aware, we have entered a new, unprecedented season as a nation and also as a Church body, in dealing with Covid-19.

In light of this, we will be connecting on Sundays using Zoom. The meetings will still be recorded and uploaded onto the website under the AM Celebration podcast feed. Each week we will also share the slides from the meeting, so you can go over them and use it in your times with the Lord throughout the week.

This past Sunday, Siji shared on our final character of the “Heroes of Faith” series – Gideon. We were encouraged not to fear or be anxious, but to spend our time in God’s Word, resting in His promises. Click on the link below to view the slides.

Words of life – Encouragements from the Word

As mentioned this past Sunday, we will be posting encouragements from the Word on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Facebook and now also on the website. These are just one way to spur one another on to truth and hope in Christ Jesus. Use these as a foundation for your times with God or conversations with others during the week.

Although we are physically separated at this time, we are one in the Spirit and members one of another (Romans 12:5). Let us spur one another on in our faith and pursuit of the Lord.


Conversations with …

This week is the start of “Conversations with …”. Each week, there will be a number of these sessions which will each consist of a brief 15 minute talk followed by a chance for you to connect with others and ask questions.

Joining instructions in the form of a Zoom link will be sent out either at the start of the week or on the day of the session.

There will be garden games for your enjoyment, beautiful grounds to explore and an inside venue should the weather misbehave.

Words of life | Anxiety and fear – 1

Philippians 4:4-8 (NIV)

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.”

Reflection:

This is a well known scripture. I am sure many of you have prayed it through, stuck it up on the fridge or encouraged little ones with it. Rightly so! It speaks straight to the heart of what many of us face, namely, anxiety. 

Firstly, Paul recognises that we do feel anxious at times. Fear and doubt creep in, our thoughts of hope are stolen from us and our mind runs down a path shadowed by despair. His instruction is clear: “In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” If need be, do this over and over and over again. His promise is true, His peace will guard your heart and mind.

Secondly, Paul directs us to place boundaries in our thought life, a list by which our thoughts should be characterised. Maybe that means placing guards on social media, news broadcasts and controversies (1 Tim 6:4).  Start your day in God’s Word, not in Facebook; play worship music at home; let prayer and thanksgiving be the last act of your day before you close your eyes. Paul puts it better, “If anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things,” and, “Put it into practice.”

Prayer outline:

  • Express your anxiety, share with Him how you feel. 
  • Rejoice and give thanks to God.
  • Tell Him what you need and what your requests are .
  • Ask Him for the grace to change habitual thinking and to have His Word replace negative thoughts.

Last Sunday, we had our first “Zoom meeting” with 98 devices that connected in. Dan encouraged us from Psalm 91 to make God our refuge in this time and to hold on to His promises and His word.

Sunday Series

On Sunday 8th March, we looked at 4 different kinds of faith Abraham showed in his journey with God: saving faith, obedient faith, persevering faith and sacrificial faith. We all need each of those at different points in our lives, but thankfully we serve a God who loves to give good gifts to His children, one of which is faith.

Next Sunday we will be looking at Moses with Mel. come join us at Tree Tops Academy for 10am to find out how we can learn from Moses’ journey of faith.


Ladies’ Ministry

Our next ladies’ time together will be a “main course”: an opportunity for spiritual input, equipping and discipleship, where we can be encouraged, challenged, and built up.

Maidstone Churches Annual Winter Shelter

Maidstone Churches are joining forces, to love and serve the homeless by washing sleeping bags this cold winter!

What’s involved?
We need volunteers to pick up, wash and dry weekly, 1-2 sleeping bags and return them to Jubilee Resource Hub (9 Ashford Road, ME145BJ) by the Wednesday following the Sunday celebration.

If you didn’t get to sign up, let Jutta know you would like to help and she will send you more information on where to pick up sleeping bags and when to have them returned to the hub.

Maidstone Easter Play

On Sunday 29 March 2020 the Churches in Maidstone have the opportunity to continue our journey together and present Jesus to our town in a new way, by bringing the Easter story to life.

Maidstone Easter Play will be an immersive, outdoor production, where the audience become the Jerusalem crowd, following actors from across the churches as they dramatize the final events of Jesus’ ministry, all within the Town Square, behind the Lockmeadow Centre.

There will be 2 performances of 90 minutes, at 11am and 3pm.
We won’t be having our normal celebration at Tree Tops Academy that morning. So please come along to the play and bring your friends.

Rutland Woods Work Party Dates

As a Church, we are very blessed to have these beautiful woods as a space to be outside, enjoy nature, learn about campfires and all sorts of bushcraft.

Over the next few months, there will be some work parties to make sure it is a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. There will be a variety of jobs to suit all abilities and plenty of hot drinks and snacks will be provided.

These dates are Saturdays and the work parties will be from 9am – 1pm:

– 5th September

The Feast – Ladies ministry update

The Feast – Ladies ministry update

We ladies kicked off the year, feasting on good company at our January ‘starter’ event. The purpose of the evening was to deepen our existing connections and provide a chance to forge new ones. Faced with an array of food platters, from cheese boards to cakes to exotic fruits and jerk chicken, we gathered around with no other agenda than to enjoy one another’s company.

“I haven’t really enjoyed being amongst a big group of people for a long time, but I really enjoyed the ladies’ evening. It was so lovely just to be free to chat and catch up with old friends and new. It was such a relaxed environment, with some structure if you wanted it but no pressure at all!”

The Big Question

The Big Question

Some of the most important questions in the world revolve around the meaning of life and what happens after we die. As Christians, we believe that God loves us and wants us to spend our lives in relationship with Him, now and for eternity.

As Christians, we are aware that we don’t deserve this unity, as we have done things in our lives that reject God, hurt others and hurt ourselves. However, the beautiful, amazing love of God was to give His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to pay for the wrong things we have done and provide the only way for us to go to be in relationship with Him. If we put our faith in Jesus’ death and resurrection, He forgives us and we can be assured of an eternity spent with Him.

A number of churches in Maidstone were challenged in 2019 by how we are helping people think about where they will spend eternity. We recognised that we are not asking people this question on the streets. So we decided to go out on the streets of Maidstone and ask people the following, “If you died tonight, would you be certain that you would be with God in heaven?”
This question gets right to the heart of the issue that we all have to think about. It is the Big Question.  

Many of us have never talked to people on the streets. It is something that we might even find scary. So The Big Question team held an evening of equipping to give us tools for how to begin this conversation. We were reminded that we are going out to share God’s message of love and hope with a world that so desperately needs it.

On one Saturday morning in January eight of us planned to go out on the street. We gathered together to pray for the morning before going out into the town. We sought God to lead us to people, and guide our conversations. I went with another man and we started praying about who we should talk to. I stopped one young man who showed a lot of a surprise on his face when I asked him the Big Question. He shared that he had stopped going to church because God wasn’t answering his prayer for a job. I offered to pray for him and this young man agreed. I prayed for him on the street. Another team met a lady at a bus stop. They started talking to her and were able to lead her in prayer to become a Christian.

So why not come and ask people in Maidstone the Big Question and trust and see if God will move among those who are looking for hope in their lives and asking the important questions of life.

Unlock the Bible: Trip to Brogdale Farm


At the start of the very wet and windy half-term, Unlock the Bible took a trip to Brogdale farm to see in nature some of the principles and imagery God shows us in His Word about grafting and pruning. Here is what Esther Simmons had to say about the experience:

“Trees and fruit are used all through the Bible as an illustration of life. I had been thinking lots about what Jesus says about fruit, how He has created us to produce fruit, so I was interested to get some more insight into this picture. Tim Biddlecombe taught us about the botany principles of grafting and pruning. Being given some understanding of the natural world and the practices of farmers to aid fruit production, shone a light on the picture Jesus uses to describe our relationship with Him in John 15.

One phrase that has stayed with me, is something Tim said that he’d tell fruit farmers in reference to pruning fruit trees so that all the branches receive enough light.

‘You’re not farming fruit, you’re farming light.’

Although it was a windy and rainy day we did manage to get outside to have a go at pruning a vine without getting too wet. It was a powerful picture to see a vine before and after being pruned and to understand the reasoning behind deciding what to cut off and what to leave. The person pruning needed to get rid of old branches that would hinder the growth of the vine and identify which branches would produce fruit for the next couple of years.

Learning about wood stock for grafting was particularly interesting and gave me another framework in which to understand the larger narrative of the Bible. It was a very insightful trip! Thank you Tim, for sharing your knowledge, and to the Unlock the Bible team, for organising it for us.”

As we reach the end of our first year of The Feast, we want to warmly invite you to a Ladies Garden Party.

This will include a glass of Prosecco on arrival, traditional afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, seasonal selection of cakes, fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and jam and a choice of loose leaf tea or freshly brewed coffee.

There will be garden games for your enjoyment, beautiful grounds to explore and an inside venue should the weather misbehave.

ABOUT
Newday is a movement that seeks to equip and empower young people to live out the amazing plan that God has for them, wherever they are.
Each Summer, Newday hits Norfolk full force, with thousands of young people traveling and camping for six days. It is an event not to be missed.

WHO
The camp is for teenagers from Year 7 – 13 (finishing year 7 in 2020).
